So today i turned 24, dined at a michelin star restaurant and drank Champagne in Champagne…
I don’t know how I’m going to beat that next year!
The train to Épernay from Paris is surprisingly an easy 2 hour train, you’re allowed to eat & drink too! Oui s’il vous plaît
We’re staying at Les Berceaux Hotel which adjoins Les Berceaux michelin restaurant. The hotel is old fashioned but i’m delighted to get a room on the second floor which has a cute french balcony!
The night starts of with a magnum Jacquesson extra brut cuveé, a dry blend. Notes of floral, oaky pear and lime zest with a nice stream of effervescence, a perfect way to start the degustation!
For entreé i have Razor clams served with barley & wild garlic paired with a 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape ‘Les Cedres’. It had a unique herbaceous taste lingering on the palate due to its Grenache blanc and Clairette blend. It worked well with the wild garlic especially, like a spice bouquet. The main was Young lamb with milk from Pyrénées with Samosa of Lamb’s sweetbread and vegetable, paired with a GSM blend from Chateauneuf du Pape ‘Les Cedres’ . It was a rich and intense red which complimented the tenderness of the young lamb and sweetbread. To finish was a meringue, ice cream and fresh strawberries and an enourmous selection of cheese!
